For the past two years I have shared this poem as part of remembering those who sacrificed so much to allow us to be free and to remember them always. I would particularly like to mention my Great Auntie Ivy who is in the picture who died during bombing in Western Super Mare during World War Two. This poem is dedicated to her and all lost loved ones.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path laid for me.
I took the hand when I heard the call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work and play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void.
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savoured much;
Good friends, good time, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all to brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
The Universe wanted me now, it set me free.
Written by Shannon Lee Moseley wrote this beautiful poem, I have altered some of the words to make it secular and available to all.
